Ingredients

For the cookies
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Forms the base and structure of your cookies.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Helps the cookies rise to a delightful softness.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Infuses richness; use room temperature butter for a creamy texture.
  • 1 cup brown sugar For moist, chewy goodness; can use coconut sugar for a healthier twist.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Balances sweetness and adds a little crunch.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors beautifully.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Adds depth and warmth.
  • 2 large eggs Acts as a binder for a perfect chewy texture.
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Optional: Mix dark and milk chocolate chips for added flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). This step is essential for even baking.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy—around 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Over-mixing can lead to tough cookies.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers look slightly underbaked. They’ll continue to cook on the baking sheet once removed.
  2. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For variations, feel free to add chopped nuts or M&M’s, or substitute with healthier options. Store in an airtight container for about a week, or freeze the dough for later use.
