Ingredients

Casserole Base
  • 1 tube refrigerated biscuits Can substitute with homemade for a from-scratch feel
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage Spicy or mild, depending on preference
  • 1 cup milk Whole milk adds richness
  • 2 tablespoons flour To thicken the gravy
  • 4 large eggs For added protein
  • Salt and pepper To taste
  • Optional: shredded cheese For a deliciously gooey topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and mix well, allowing it to cook for about a minute.
  4. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until combined and season lightly with salt.
  6. Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or lightly grease it. Break apart the biscuits and layer them in the dish.
  7. Pour the sausage gravy mixture evenly over the biscuits, followed by the whisked eggs.
  8. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top for that gooey finish.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden.
