Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Add in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer the cubed bread evenly across the bottom. Sprinkle the cooked sausage and any vegetables over the bread.
  5. Top with the shredded cheddar cheese, ensuring even coverage.
  6. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the entire casserole, gently pressing down on the bread to soak it up.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the top is slightly golden.
  8. Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This casserole can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, pop it in the microwave or oven until warmed through. Use stale bread for best results and let it rest after baking for easier slicing.
