Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cut the bread into cubes and place half of it in the dish to create a base layer.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon, and whisk until everything is well-combined.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the bread in the dish, then layer the remaining bread cubes on top.
- Pour the rest of the cream mixture over the top, ensuring all the bread is soaked through.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour, or overnight for a more flavorful result.
Baking
- When ready to bake, remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a little puffy.
- Allow it to cool slightly before serving, and enjoy your masterpiece with maple syrup or fresh fruit.
Notes
Use day-old bread for the best custardy texture. Letting the dish rest in the refrigerator overnight deepens the flavors. Avoid adding toppings until just before serving for the best presentation.
