Ingredients

Dough ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For a gluten-free option, substitute with almond flour.
  • 1/2 cup water Provides moisture for the churro dough.
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter Can be swapped for coconut oil for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds warmth and sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Helps churros puff up.
Coating
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar For coating.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon Classic pairing with churros; adjust to taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Heat over medium until the butter melts.
  2. Add the flour and baking powder, stirring vigorously until a dough forms that pulls away from the sides of the pan. Allow it to cool slightly.
Flavoring and Shaping
  1. Stir in the vanilla extract once the dough is manageable to touch.
  2. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small bite-sized pieces, about 1 to 2 inches long, onto a parchment-lined air fryer basket.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Cook the churro bites in batches for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Coating and Serving
  1. In a shallow bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon while the churro bites are still warm. Toss the fried bites in this mixture until well-coated.
  2. Serve your Crispy Air Fryer Churro Bites warm, possibly with a small bowl of warm chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

For variations, consider adding cocoa powder for a chocolate flavor, chopped nuts for texture, or swapping sugar for cheese and herbs for a savory version. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
