Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 slices slices of bread (your choice: whole grain, sourdough, or rye)
  • 1 cup sliced deli meats or grilled veggies
  • 1 cup favorite cheese, sliced or shredded (cheddar, Swiss, or mozzarella)
  • 1/2 cup fresh greens, such as spinach or arugula Feel free to swap spinach with kale for a stronger flavor.
  • 1/4 cup condiments (mayonnaise, mustard, or hummus)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Avocado, sliced tomatoes, or pickles for extra flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Choose Your Base: Start by selecting a slice of bread as the base. Layer with your choice of condiments, spreading evenly over the slice.
  2. Add Your Filling: Pile on your deli meats or grilled veggies, followed by a generous helping of cheese.
  3. Layer in the Greens: Top the filling with a handful of fresh greens for a vibrant crunch.
  4. Season: Sprinkle a little salt and pepper to enhance the taste.
  5. Top It Off: Place a second slice of bread on top, and gently press down.
  6. Optional Toasting: If you desire a warm sandwich, heat a skillet over medium heat, add a little butter, and toast each side until golden brown, allowing the cheese to melt.
  7. Slice and Serve: Cut your sandwiches diagonally for that classic look and serve with your favorite side, like chips or a salad.

Notes

These sandwiches can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Toasted sandwiches can be reheated in a skillet over low heat. For freezing, wrap sandwiches tightly in foil and store for up to a month, thawing them in the fridge before reheating.
