Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened This is where the magic starts
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
Mix-ins
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Or dark chocolate if you’re feeling adventurous
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional, like walnuts or pecans for extra crunch

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Mix in the vanilla extract, followed by the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) until evenly distributed. Let the dough sit for about 10 minutes.
Baking
  1. Using a large cookie scoop or two tablespoons, drop mounds of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, allowing room for spreading.
  2. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden, and the centers appear soft and puffy.
  3. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

Feel free to switch up ingredients or add extras. For thicker cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
