Preparation
- Begin by slicing the beef thinly against the grain. Also, slice the onion into thin half rings.
Cooking
- In a large pan, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent and tender, about 5 minutes.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the sliced beef. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the beef is browned but not overcooked.
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, mirin, and dashi. Pour this mixture over the beef and onions, stirring to combine.
- Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, letting the beef absorb the flavors while the sauce slightly thickens.
- Serve the beef mixture over bowls of hot, cooked rice. Top generously with chopped green onions.
- Enjoy while everything is warm and fragrant, adding extra soy sauce or mirin to taste.
Notes
For variations, consider adding vegetables like bell peppers or carrots. For a healthier twist, try brown rice or cauliflower rice. A raw egg on top is traditional for creaminess.
