Ingredients

Puff Pastry and Cheese Filling
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, preferably store-bought)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened; for a lighter version, use low-fat cream cheese)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Monterey Jack)
  • 2-3 jalapeños (finely chopped; adjust based on your spice preference)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder adds depth
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Optional toppings: Sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning for added crunch

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the sheet of puff pastry until it’s about 1/8 inch thick and cut into strips approximately 1 inch wide.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, chopped jalapeños, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
  4. Take one puff pastry strip and place a spoonful of the jalapeño cheese mixture along one side. Fold the other side over to enclose the filling and twist the strip to create a spiral.
  5. Place the twists on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the twists.
Baking
  1. Pop the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they’re puffed and golden brown.
  2. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
