Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 4 fillets salmon fillets (wild-caught is preferable)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2-3 oranges) Bottled juice can be used but fresh gives the best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (for added sweetness)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by patting the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Make the Glaze
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the orange juice, orange zest, honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes or until slightly thickened.
Cook the Salmon
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the salmon fillets, skin-side down, and cook for 4-5 minutes. Carefully flip the fillets and pour the orange glaze over the top.
  2. Allow the salmon to cook in the glaze for another 3-4 minutes, basting with the sauce. The salmon should be cooked through and flake easily with a fork.
Serve
  1. Remove from heat and let it rest for a minute. Then, garnish with fresh parsley or green onions before serving.

Notes

Leftover salmon can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes, drizzling a bit of fresh orange juice over it to retain moisture. Avoid microwaving to prevent drying out the salmon. Quality matters; opt for high-quality salmon for the best flavor and texture. Don’t overcook the salmon; it should stay moist and tender.
