Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, folding gently until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts: leave one part as is, mix red food coloring into the second, and blue into the third.
- Chill the colored doughs in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
- Scoop small amounts of each colored dough and roll into balls. Roll in powdered sugar to coat.
Baking
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets before transferring to wire racks.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Freeze dough balls for longer storage. If reheating, warm in the oven for a few minutes to restore texture.
