Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey You can also use ground chicken.
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz) Swap for cream of chicken for a different flavor.
  • 1 cup sour cream Greek yogurt can be used for a healthier option.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to mix it up with pepper jack for a kick.
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots (32 oz)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey and diced onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Mix the Sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked meat, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Stir until everything is blended nicely.
  4. Layer the Ingredients: Spread the meat mixture evenly in the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish. Then, sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the top.
  5. Add the Tater Tots: Arrange the frozen tater tots in an even layer atop the meat and cheese mixture.
  6. Top with Cheese: Finally, sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tater tots.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  8. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Customize the casserole with your favorite toppings or ingredients. For vegetarian options, replace meat with black beans or lentils. Consider pairing with a garden salad or garlic bread for a wholesome meal.
